Fan clubs with their own candidates for the Supervisory Board election
The fan clubs of 1. FC Union Berlin have decided at their annual meeting to nominate their own candidate for the supervisory board elections taking place in September for the first time. A corresponding motion was accepted with the yes votes of 66 out of the 74 present voting member fan clubs, with eight abstentions and no votes against.
The fan club council has been tasked with selecting a suitable person. The decision to send a representative to the club's supervisory board should take into account the growing number of Unioners organized in fan clubs. Currently, 4,296 supporters are organized in 124 official fan clubs, making them part of an ever-growing organizational form. Fan club members are also active in the fan and membership department (FuMA), the foundation, the economic council, the Eisernen V.I.R.U.S., as well as in working groups of 1. FC Union Berlin.
“The development of our fan club structure is impressive and shows that more and more Unioners want to actively participate in shaping club life. Therefore, I consider the decision of the fan clubs to nominate their own representative for the supervisory board to be logical and I welcome it very much,” said Thomas Thiele, member of the fan club council of 1. FC Union Berlin. “Another representative of organized fans alongside the representative from the fan and membership department strengthens the anchoring of fan interests in the management of our club.”
Other topics of the fan club conference
As part of the annual meeting of all fan clubs of 1. FC Union Berlin, Union president Dirk Zingler informed about the current situation of the club and was then available for questions from the fan club representatives. Together with the representatives of fan work and the fan club council, he honored long-standing fan clubs.
Sven Mühle, head of fan work, then reported on the general development of the fan clubs and encouraged interested Unioner: “Every new Union fan club that adheres to our fan club regulations is welcome. Those interested in founding a fan club are warmly invited to contact fan work via the registration form on the homepage or in person.”
In addition to the Union fan clubs (UFC) Combinat Cöpenick, Havelland Unioner and Kohorte Mittellinie, which have passed their two-year probation period and are now designated as EUFC (Registered Union Fan Club), the fan club conference supported that the three UFC Gegengerade'22, Legion Coepenick and Sportschau Unioner will now be recognized as EUFC on probation. Additionally, the following twelve fan clubs were accepted as UFC: Alte Förster, Eiserne Retter Thüringen, Blockfreunde Waldseite, Eiserne Gürkchen, Waldseite United, Eiserne Verbundenheit, Non Plus Ultra Union, Union’s women, Sektor Drei Loyalisten, Eisernes SPECKtakel, Eisern Union Italia and Union de Hierro. With the last two, there are now already seven international fan clubs (UFCi) registered.
For the fan club council, Jörg Reuter reported on the work of the past year, which was characterized by dialogue, networking, and strengthening the fan club structures: Fan clubs were supported in case of problems that arose, the club-fan dialogue and other working groups were actively accompanied, the collaboration with FuMA was intensified, and a "Union fan club regulars' table" was established. In addition, the fan club council accompanied social, inclusive, and club-political issues and represented the interests of the fan clubs to the club.
Joachim "Ajax" Müller, Managing Director of the foundation "UNION VEREINT. Shoulder to Shoulder" reported in detail about the various projects of the foundation and clarified how actively the motto "The strong help the weak" is lived at Union.
As part of the next fan club meeting on 27.08.2026 (17:00 in the Fanhaus), the personal introduction of the candidate proposed by the fan club council will take place. All members of the Union fan clubs are warmly invited.
